Role Overview

The Process Lab Engineer is responsible for owning and overseeing the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the process lab within a cleanroom environment. This role ensures optimal functionality of facility and lab equipment, strict adherence to cleanroom and safety standards, and provides hands-on support for daily engineering activities including customer demo builds, process development, software and hardware testing, and other critical engineering operations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Cleanroom Operations & Management

  • Enforce cleanroom 5S practices, safety guidelines, and contamination control procedures.
  • Monitor and manage cleanroom environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and particle levels.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO cleanroom standards and internal quality systems.
  • Ensure proper setup, calibration, qualification, and operational readiness of lab equipment.
  • Coordinate cleanroom and lab usage across multiple projects and teams to maximize efficiency.

2. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facilities equipment, DI water systems, and process gas supply systems.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate repairs with vendors, and manage service escalations when required.
  • Plan and support regular maintenance activities, including annual shutdowns.
  • Maintain accurate equipment logs, calibration records, maintenance documentation, and service histories.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment.

3. Facilities & Utilities Management

  • Oversee cleanroom-related utilities including DI Water (DIW), CDA, vacuum systems, electrical power, chillers, and process gases.
  • Work closely with Facilities and EHS teams to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations.
  • Monitor utilities consumption and support optimization and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining documentation and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Conduct cleanroom and safety training for internal teams, customers, and vendors.
  • Participate in WEHS audits and actively contribute to EHS initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

4. Process & Engineering Support

  • Support process development, experimentation, troubleshooting, and failure analysis activities.
  • Assist engineers with experimental setup, data collection, and basic data analysis.
  • Ensure availability and timely replenishment of consumables, materials, and lab supplies required for operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor front-end or back-end equipment, cleanroom systems, and facility equipment maintenance.
  • Understanding of cleanroom protocols, contamination control, and safety requirements.
  • Proven hands-on experience in equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with facilities systems such as DI water systems, gas delivery systems, vacuum, and process chillers.
  • Good documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Technical Skills & Methodology

  • Proficient in MS Office tools and data analysis software (e.g., JMP).
  • Technical aptitude with a structured and systematic problem-solving approach.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in facilities operation and maintenance.
