We are seeking an experienced Strategic Commodity Manager to lead global sourcing and supplier management activities for highly engineered products and technologies. This role is responsible for driving cost optimization, supplier performance, supply chain resilience, and strategic sourcing initiatives across a global supplier network while supporting business growth and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Product Management, Quality, and regional stakeholders to develop and execute sourcing strategies for key commodity categories.
Key Responsibilities
Commodity & Supplier Management
- Own and manage strategic sourcing activities for assigned technology categories such as Mechatronics, Electronics, Automation, Vision Systems, Precision Components, or related commodities.
- Develop and execute global commodity strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor supplier performance through metrics covering Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Technology capabilities.
- Drive supplier development initiatives to improve quality, lead times, innovation, and competitiveness.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with key global suppliers.
Strategic Sourcing & Cost Management
- Build Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models and business cases to support sourcing decisions.
- Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities while maintaining quality, performance, and supply continuity.
- Lead supplier selection, qualification, onboarding, and sourcing projects across multiple regions.
- Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to identify supply chain risks and opportunities.
- Develop alternative sourcing strategies and contingency plans where necessary.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, and Operations teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Coordinate sourcing projects involving global and regional stakeholders.
- Support new product introduction activities through supplier engagement and supply chain readiness planning.
Contract & Vendor Management
- Lead commercial negotiations including pricing, contracts, service agreements, and performance terms.
- Manage supplier contracts and ensure accurate maintenance of procurement and vendor information.
- Establish effective supplier governance processes and performance review mechanisms.
- Resolve supplier escalations and drive corrective actions where required.
Supply Chain Excellence
- Continuously improve supplier performance and supply chain processes.
- Support quality improvement initiatives across the end-to-end supply chain.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, supply markets, and supplier capabilities.
- Ensure sourcing activities comply with company policies, procurement standards, and operational requirements.
Key Accountabilities

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, or related discipline.
- Combination of technical and commercial education is advantageous.
Experience
- 5-10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supply chain management, or commodity management within technology-driven manufacturing environments.
- Experience managing global suppliers, particularly across Asia.
- Proven track record in supplier qualification, audits, performance management, and development.
- Experience supporting engineering and manufacturing organizations.
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, component technologies, quality systems, and supply chain operations.
- Knowledge of electronics, mechanical systems, mechatronics, precision engineering, or industrial equipment environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) methodologies.
- Excellent commercial and contractual negotiation skills.
Systems & Tools
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office applications.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or equivalent.
